How I Started Selling on Amazon During a Pandemic and Made $10,000

Amazon is the largest online market place with a worldwide presence. We all know Jeff Bezos has become a billionaire many times over from the success of Amazon. Imagine if you could take just a small piece of that pie.

Over the years, I have sold online through eBay and local market places. The amount of money from these sales helps pay the bills, but not sufficient to go full-time and leave the 9 to 5 behind.

I was curious about Amazon and the success stories I was reading online and watching through YouTube videos. Was it for real that people were making over $100,000 year selling on Amazon?

Well, only one way to find out, that is to do it!

It also helped that I got a bit of a push to create a new stream of income due to COVID19. As I realized that more and more people were getting infected with the virus, I needed a backup plan. If I were to lose my job, I need a few extra sources of income.

At the end of February 2020, I set up my Amazon Seller Central Account. With access to three market places. The focus was to list mostly on the largest market place which is the United States. The account also provides access to Amazon Canada and Mexico.

There was one problem and that was what would I sell. I didn’t have any inventory and most of the items I could sell from home were more suited to eBay.

With some quick research, I learned about dropshipping. The perfect solution. I would have access to a warehouse full of inventory, and would not have to stock anything at home or put out any money until an item is sold.

The next step was to find items from the suppliers. With a few hours of research, I settled on five items to start selling. With the items listed, it was a matter of waiting for the orders to start coming in.

I was actually surprised that the first order came through a few hours after I had listed. Later that day, the second order came through, and so on. As I became comfortable with the platform, I listed more items. The sales just kept coming and soon I was at my first $1000 in profit in about two weeks.

Now, remember that having the perceived pain of losing my job and income provide the push I needed. It’s that fear that has driven many men and women to succeed. When you know you don’t have much to lose, you are more capable of trying new things.

After two months of selling on Amazon, I cleared over $10,000 in profit. That’s not bad at all, considering I started with nothing and held no inventory. Even in difficult times, we can find opportunities and success. If you take away anything from my experience is to believe in yourself, try new things and push yourself to accomplish what you thought was impossible.
